About Us

Ross’s love for the outdoors began at an early age. Being born and raised in the Post Oak Savanah portion of Texas in the town of Hallettsville played a key role in that love. Also, playing into that love was the fact that his parents and grandparents were raised on the Texas Gulf Coast.

From the time he could walk, he would accompany his PawPaw to the deer stand. Learning, watching and following his guidance. Many hours were spent on those family deer leases. From hunting deer, hogs, ducks and dove, consuming and turning it all into table fare. Nothing was wasted.

With family still living on the Gulf Coast, the spring and summer months were spent in the saltwater chasing redfish and trout. Family vacations were spent on the coast and on the water.

After high school, Ross went to college in San Marcos Texas at Texas State. This university was nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, a perfect place for anyone who loved the outdoors. During his time there he worked for the University at its Freeman Ranch facility. This was a working ranch that also included a hunting operation. Ross assisted the ranch manager with all aspects of its operation. Ross’s off hours were spent fishing and kayaking the many freshwater rivers in the area.

After obtaining a BS degree in Resource and Environmental Studies, He obtained his USCG license and started his first fishing and duck hunting outfitter business, Back Bay Entertainment – an all inclusive guide service. Company Motto: Just Show Up. He would set up lodging, meals and guide service for his clients. From individuals, families to corporate events, he did it all.

In 2013, he married his wife, Kelsey, and started a family.

From almost four years of guiding full time,  he made a change and went to work in Victoria Texas for Baker Hughes as drill bit salesman. This job put him close to home between Hallettsville and the Gulf Coast town of Port O’Connor.

Then the oilfield took a downturn. Thank goodness for Ross’s positive personality. His easiness with getting along with people and great book of fishing/hunting business he was able to jump back in to the  fishing guide business.

Ross now works as a Regional Sales Manager for Momentum Rental and Sales in Port Lavaca, Texas.

The new adventure Tines and Tails will merge Texas saltwater fishing, Texas whitetail and exotic hunting, Cast-N-Blast Trips, South African safaris and so much more in to a turn key outfitter.

His personal time now is now spent with family and friends enjoying the outdoors. With his main focus, sharing as much as he can with his 2 young sons, passing on that legacy for the love and respect of the resources God put on this earth is of paramount importance to Ross.

The common thread of this biography is family. It all began with sharing the outdoors with family and that philosophy exists still today. Whether it’s personal or with clients, many great friendships have been made in woods and on the water.

“Now then, get your equipment – your quiver and bow and go out to the country to hunt some wild game for Me.”
